Endings and beginnings

One of the great things about being a teacher is that there's always a starting gun and a finish line. The school year is over, although I still have two workshop days, which I really love. Grades are in, books are counted, stuff is put away so they can clean my classroom, and I've processed all the graduation projects that were put in my mailbox. I have established some modest goals for the summer, and I intend to catch up on sleep.

Then, there's the Sopranos' finale. Of course, I was pretty disconcerted by the quick cut to black, but I have to admit that I liked it better as I reflected on it. I watched it again last night and picked up on some details that made it even more intriguing. What is it about these guys that makes us kind of like them, despite the fact that they killed people, often in a grisly way.

And I know it's not an end, but the series finale of Lost was quite interesting. It's rather fun to dissect these things six ways from Sunday, and it makes for some great next day debriefings at work. Flashback? Prequel? Whose funeral?

We attended a wedding of a young woman we have known since she was about two and a half years old, and it was a really lovely experience. What made it particularly fun was seeing a bunch of other kids we've also known for most of their lives. They have grown to be accomplished, confident adults, and it was a pleasure to watch them dance and laugh.
