The people have spoken...

...and they have said "Enough!"

I don't pretend that the Democrats are the answer to everyone's prayers. Too often, they don't seem to be able to get out of their own way. I just think it makes sense to have some checks and balances. And now we will see what we as a country are made of.

Here's what we need (not necessarily in this order, but I don't know how to do bullets in this format):

1. A plan on getting our troops out of Iraq without having it vaporize

2. Some way to address poverty in this country, including the deplorable lack of affordable health care, especially for children

3. A decent way to utilize the amazing possibilities science offers us

4. A recognition that other countries occupy this planet, including some that might dress/talk/worship differently than we do

5. A plan for stewardship of our natural resources - using them with respect and wisdom

I expected to feel euphoric if and when this happened - now I'm strangely sober. Come on, Pelosi, Schumer, Clinton, et al - make me glad so many people voted the way they did.

President Bush? Are you listening? You don't get to pick and choose the parts of the Constitution that suit you. This is the system a lot of smart guys came up with 220 years ago. You have two years to act like a leader. It's your legacy to try to put some patches on.

In the words of so, so many others, "The system works."
